The Best Party Games for Your Friendsgiving
Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines “Friendsgiving” as “A meal with a Thanksgiving-ish vibe but it’s not exactly *on* Thanksgiving day and it’s mainly for friends and not family, obviously.”
We know that not every Friendsgiving is the same, so here are the five types of gatherings you might attend, and which game is best suited to the occasion:
- The Coworkers-giving If you work in retail, you are likely to be scheduled on one of the days sandwiching Thanksgiving (Thanks, capitalism). On this occasion, everyone will be a bit miffed because they wanted to be with their Gan-Gan in South Dakota. Instead, they are with the people they see every day while folding tank tops. Play: Fakin' It All Night Long Why: This game will finally allow you to lie to your boss AND make them blush in the same game!
- The Sorta Friendsgiving You might end up at a Friendsgiving with a bunch of near-strangers, in which case you are usually required to be on your best behavior. If you end up at a stifling, polite meal, you can break out a game to loosen things up a smidge. Play: Fibbage: Enough About You Why: This is the perfect game to get to know one another and break the ice, while also sharing a few laughs!
- The Big Friendsgiving If there are more than a handful of your friends meeting up this year, you’ll discover two things: 1.) Way too many people brought chips as their “side dish,” and 2.) You’ll need a game that takes advantage of the big crowd. Play: Split the Room Why: This game is all about, well, “splitting the room.” See how well you can get the room to debate some weird and silly hypothetical situations.
- The Goofy Friendsgiving You might find yourself surrounded by a bunch of extroverts this Friendsgiving. If that sounds exhausting, fret not. There’s a perfect game to play with your cast of artistic goofballs. Play: Let Me Finish Why: Because of its immense creative freedom, you can really let your performance side shine with a naughty twist! Give everyone at the party something to talk about like why Debbie thinks that THAT is where the mailbox's butt would go!
- The Friends-With Kids-giving You might be in your 30s--hey, it happens. In which case, you’re probably at a Friendsgiving with some adorable children. If you need a super kid-friendly game, we’ve got just the thing. Play: The Jackbox Survey Scramble Why: With family-friendly modes and simple gameplay, this game is fun and easy for the whole family!
